A New Home. The Förderverein Berliner Schloss e.V. is moving house

by Gritt Ockert

The Humboldt Box closed its doors at the end of last year, and will be removed over the course of the first quarter of the new year. This of course raises the question as to where the Förderverein Berliner Schloss e.V. and its tireless director, Wilhelm von Boddien, will continue their fundraising activities until the opening of the Humboldt Forum.

Fundraising continues to be an important and necessary activity, and we haven’t quite won our bet yet that the reconstruction of the Berlin Palace facade can be paid for by public donations. Of course, the fact that over 83 million euros in cash donations have already been collected represents a fantastic successin itself. That is already more than the 80 million euros pledged, but completingthe interior portals, the portal passageways and the overall reconstruction of the dome will cost a total of 105 million euros.
All those would like to continue to perform a service to the history of the Berlin Palace are warmly invited to come along to the association’s new home on Werderscher Markt, right next to Friedrichswerder Church, on 21 January. Visitors will also be able to see at least part of the large model of the historical city centre around 1900, which will be on display again.

Information material from the association, as well as brochures and flyers on the reconstruction of the Berlin Palace as the Humboldt Forum will be soon be available from a portacabin which will be located directly next to the site fence facing the Lustgarten. This is to make sure that everyone who is interested in, or a fan of, the Palace will be able to find someone to talk to. The aim, for the end of the year, is to be able to say “The bet’s still on!”
